12 Best Tips and Tricks for OnePlus 6
Tip #1. Enable Night Mode
Smartphone emits blue light that causes eyestrain. After constant use of your OnePlus 6, you may feel tired and sleeplessness if you use your phone after sunset. In case, you watch videos and consume other contents in a low-lit bedroom, you should enable Night Mode on your OnePlus 6. Once you activate Night Mode, you can also customize the time range for Night Mode on your OnePlus 6.
Tip #2. Hide Notch
In its efforts to follow in the footsteps of Apple’s iPhone X and other competitors, OnePlus introduced Notch in its latest device OnePlus 6. But this feature failed to impress users, and they began to find the way to disable or hide Notch from their OnePlus 6. Notch is found to be an impractical feature by many OnePlus 6 owners, and therefore, they want to get rid of Notch from OnePlus 6.
Tip #3. Customize Shelf
Shelf is OnePlus’s answer to the Today View in iPhones and iPads. Users can quickly summon the useful widgets by swiping from left to right on the unlocked screen. Like iOS devices, users cannot use Shelf on the locked screen, and this is a major drawback of this feature in OnePlus 6. Let’s hope, this shortcoming is removed in the next OS update by OnePlus. In case, you don’t find Shelf too essential, you can disable Shelf on your OnePlus 6. If you ask me, users should use and customize Shelf on their OnePlus 6.
Tip #4. Root OnePlus 6
Android is best experienced when the device is rooted. Pro users like to explore the hidden features of Android device, and therefore, they root their Android device. When you root your OnePlus 6, you become a superuser and use the features cannot be accessed by normal users.
Tip #5. Unlock Bootloader
When you want to install unauthorized software on your Android phone, you need to unlock the bootloader. Note that once you unlock the bootloader, you lose your phone’s warranty or guarantee provided by the manufacturers or the dealers. However, some pro users unlock the bootloader on their own risk, as they want to use that software. Phone brands lock the bootloader of their devices, but not all makers do this; some brands launch their phones with bootloader already unlocked. OnePlus sells its phones with bootloader locked, but you can always unlock the bootloader of your OnePlus 6.
Tip #6. Reading Mode
Given the large screen size of OnePlus 6, voracious readers would like to read eBooks and other materials on the phone. Since reading requires users to stare at the screen, it will create a negative impact on the sleep cycles as the phone sends out blue light. You can turn on reading mode on your OnePlus 6 from the Settings ⟶ Display ⟶ Reading mode. Moreover, your phone allows you to enable reading mode automatically within certain apps.
Tip #7. Customize Alert Slider
The alert slider is available on all OnePlus devices from OnePlus 2. Earlier the Alert slider was available on the left side of the device, but now the same slider is located on the right side of OnePlus. You will find three different settings: Silence, Vibrate, and Ring. You can customize the Alert slider by tapping on Settings ⟶ Alert slider. Here, you can silence calls and notifications with no vibration except for alarms. When you toggle the media button, you can block notifications while watching videos.
Tip #8. Face Unlock
Face Unlock is another feature hijacked from iPhone X. Unlike iPhone X, the face unlock in OnePlus is far easier and simple. You don’t have to change your facial expressions while registering your face for security. However, an important thing is that before you register your face data, you need to use either PIN, pattern, or Fingerprint in case you don’t want to use Face Unlock every time.
Step #1. Open Settings on your OnePlus 6.
Step #2. Tap on Security & lock screen.
Step #3. Now tap on Face Unlock.
Here, you will find three options: Pattern, PIN, and Password. You can select any one option.
I have selected PIN as it is easier to remember and use four digits.
Once you set up the PIN (or Pattern/Password), you will be landed on Face Unlock screen by default. If this doesn’t happen automatically, you can go back to Security & lock screen and tap on Face Unlock.
Next, tap on Add face data and add your face data. Note that you are supposed to keep the phone 20-30 cm away from your face. Also, keep your phone and face in a bright environment. Your phone shows you a warning that reads that face unlock is less secure than fingerprint and password.
Tip #9. Change Battery Icon
This is a small change in the icon of battery status on your OnePlus 6. There are three options available: battery bar, battery circle, and Battery hidden. If you are not happy with the battery bar (see that cylindrical icon) on the display, you can select a circle or battery hidden option on your OnePlus 6. For this purpose:
Settings ⟶ Status bar ⟶ Battery style, and then select the option you want to use.
Tip #10. Icon Pack
You can use custom icon packs on your OnePlus 6; you need to download new icon packs from Google Play Store. Alternatively, you can also use some default icon packs available on OnePlus 6.
Step #1. Go to the Home screen of your OnePlus 6.
Step #2. On Home screen, long press your finger.
Step #3. The screen will vibrate and two cards will appear with three options at the bottom: WALLPAPERS, WIDGETS, & HOME SETTINGS. You need to tap on HOME SETTINGS.
Step #4. Tap on Icon pack from the list of options.
Step #5. Finally, select Default, Dives, or Rifon as your icon pack. Alternatively, you can tap on More and download third-party icon packs from Play Store.
Tip #11. Camera App Settings
OnePlus 6 has different settings for the Camera app. When you are using the app, swipe up on the current mode’s title and then tap on Settings icon from the upper right corner of the screen. In Camera settings, you can change shutter sound, location data, and save the regular photos for pics shot in portrait mode.
Tip #12. Lift to Wake
How annoying it is to press the button to check frequent notifications on your OnePlus 6! This becomes more challenging when you are not using Always-On display. A better solution is to use Lift to Wake feature.
Settings ⟶ Display ⟶ Toggle Ambient display.
Note that Lift up display will be toggled on automatically when you turn on the Ambient display. When you disable Ambient display, the switch of Lift up display will be turned off. Next, customize the clock (how you want to display it).
That’s all friends!
