Finally, the first Android P developer preview is here for Google’s Pixel devices. For sure, you would be excited to install Android P on Google Pixel/Pixel XL or Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL phone. Right? If so, then it is quite straightforward. You will need to flash your phone and quickly install it now without wasting much time.
As Android P included new notification style for messages, UI changes, new transition animation, Pixel launcher, screenshot editor and lot more exciting feature, every user would wish to get Android P now on their device. Unfortunately, it’s now only available for Pixel devices. Google will soon release for other devices as well. Until that, Pixel phones users can download and install Android P developer preview on their devices. Here’s how to do it!
How to Download and Install Android P 1 on Google Pixel/Pixel XL or Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL
- Make sure that you have installed ADB tool on your Windows, Mac, and Linux
- Flashing will erase all your device’s data, create a backup of your data.
Once you have installed the fastboot tool, then add it to your PATH environment variable (the flash-all script below must be able to find it). Also, ensure that you have set up USB access for your device.
Step #1. Download suitable system image for your device from here and unzip it to a proper folder.
Step #2. Connect your device to the computer using the USB cable.
Step #3. Start your device in fastboot mode with following ways:
- Using adb tool, enter “adb reboot bootloader” command
- Using a key combo: Turn the device off, then turn it on and immediately hold down the relevant key combination for your device.
Step #4. If it needs, Unlock your phone in bootloader using the following command
fastboot flashing unlock
Now you devices will show you confirmation screen and delete all data from your phone.
Step #5. Open a terminal and locate the unzipped system image directory of your device.
Step #6. Now enter following script:
It will install all necessary bootloader, baseband firmware, and operating system. Once it finished, your device will reboot and then you should lock the bootloader security.
Step #7. Start your device in fastboot mode and enter the following command:
fastboot flashing lock
Now Locking bootloader will wipe the data on your phone. After locking the bootloader, you can flash your device again with “fastboot OEM unlock” command again, it will erase the data
Furthermore, Google also advises users that this preview won’t review automatically over the wait updates and it will come in subsequent versions for devices.
