After Apple’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus now its turn of HTC to join the club of no headphone jack as it announces its new flagship smartphone on Thursday. HTC has announced it’s all new ‘U line up of smartphones with HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play. Neither of these two smartphones has a headphone jack. What struck the most is that HTC has gone with some aggressive pricing for both the smartphones.
The company said in a media announcement today, “Hold it up and you’ll appreciate phone’s symmetrical construction, and the way it transforms light as you turn it.” Out of these two new smartphones, HTC U Ultra is the most powerful one. This phone carries 5.7 in QHD (2560×1440 pixels) display and along with the second display of 2 inch which has an off-screen resolution of 160×1040 which is situated on top of it.
HTC U Ultra is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage. There is a 3000mAh battery which will keep the smartphone on for the entire day. The sapphire glassed smartphone will have a limited edition as per HTC’s announcement.
On the other side, HTC U Play has a 5.2 inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display and has MediaTek Helio P10 processor. With 3GB RAM (a 4GB RAM variant is also available) and the 2500mAh battery, this smartphone will be another power packed presentation by HTC. This variant too has another 2-inch display and both phones will run on Android 7.0 Nougat.
If we look at the cameras then both the smartphone has 16-megapixel back cameras, and on the front HTC U Ultra has 12MP cam and surprisingly enough the HTC U Play has the same 16MP quality cam in front as well. With no headphone jack, both the smartphones have USB Type-C port and company will ship HTC USonic earphones along with them.
Talking about pricing the HTC U Ultra is priced at $749 and will be shipped only after mid-March in the United States. There is still a cover over HTC U Play’s price which will be announced at a later date.
At the start of this year, there has been plenty of announcements for the new smartphones as it happened at the end of last year as well. Xiaomi MI Mix was the first one to announce its edgeless display smartphone late last year. At the start of this year, Samsung announced its A Series smartphones and just yesterday Nokia too declared its comeback with two new Android phones priced just around $150.
The heat is just on, come April, and you will see the launch of Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S8.
