However, one thing that I don’t like at all is the never ending notifications, which not only tends to distract me from my work or study but also eats into a lot of battery on my device. Fortunately, there is an option to disable all or specific Facebook notifications on Android. Let’s dive ahead to find out!
How to Mute Facebook Notifications on Android
Want to permanently turn off the Facebook notifications as you no longer wish to bear with it?
If you use Jelly Bean, you can quickly disable app drawer notification for the Facebook app from settings on your smartphone/tablet. (App drawer>tap Settings to open Android Settings>tap on the App option to open Android application management> Next up, locate and tap the app for which you wish to disable the Android Notification >open the app info page>Under the Force stop and Uninstall button, you will need to uncheck Show notification and confirm it in the popup message.)
In case, your Android device has not yet received the Jelly Bean upgrade, you need to turn off the notifications from Facebook settings.
Step #1. Launch Facebook app on your device and then open the in-app menu and select App Settings.
Step #2. Next up, tap on Notification option.
Step #3. If you want to disable all notifications from the app (comments, wall posts, messages), simply uncheck the box next to Notification.
If you wish to mute specific ones such as messages, wall posts, uncheck the respective options.
Step #4. In the end, tap on the back button in order to save the settings.
How to Mute Notification for Specific Friends
Don’t want to completely turn off Facebook notifications? You can disable it for specific friends.
Step #1. First off, you have to launch the Facebook app on your Android device.
Step #2. Now, you need a tap on the search box at the top and then type in the name of the contact you want to mute notification.
Step #3. Next, you will have to tap on the friend’s name from the returned search results in order to open his wall.
Step #4. Tap on the Message button on your friend’s wall to open the Messaging page. (If you have communicated with that friend recently, tap on the Message button which is between notifications and new friend requests.)
Step #5. Up next, tap on the information button from the top right-hand corner.
Step #6. Now, you have the option to completely disable notifications or mute it for a specific period of time. As for instance, you can turn off the notification for one hour or until 8 O’clock.
If you turn off the notification for a limited time, it will automatically get enabled once the time runs out.
