Step #1. Open File Explorer using Windows key + E.

Step #2. Now, click This PC from the left pane.

Then, you have to check the Hidden items option.

Step #4. Next up, open Windows installation drive (C:) and go to the following path.

Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.

Step #5. Programs folder will open. Right-click, choose New, and click Shortcut.

Step #6. Up next, you have to type the following command and click Next:

shutdown.exe -s -t 00

This command starts Shutdown.exe. While the -s switch requests a shutdown, the -t 00 switch sets the time duration after which PC will shut down. As per the command, your PC will turn off after zero seconds.

Step #7. Now, you have to name the shortcut with the voice command you wish to use with Cortana. As for instance, “Shutdown” or “Turn off PC”.

Step #8. Once you are done, click on Finish confirm.

Now, simply say,: “Hey Cortana: Open Shutdown” in order to turn off your computer hands-free.

Step #1. Assuming you are in the Programs folder, right-click, select New, and click Shortcut.

Now, just say, “Hey Cortana: Open Sign out” in order to log off of your Windows 10.

How to use Cortana to hibernate your Windows 10 PC

There is also a way to use Cortana to put your Windows 10 PC in the hibernate mode which is very similar to sleep mode. But instead of saving the open documents and running apps to RAM, it saves them to the hard disk.

Step #1. In the Programs folder, right-click, choose New, and then click Shortcut.

Step #2. Now, you need to type the following command and click Next:

shutdown.exe -h

The command will start Shutdown.exe. It will use the -h to put your computer in hibernation mode. Make sure hibernation is enabled on your PC.

Step #3. Next, you need to name the shortcut with the voice command you wish to use with Cortana. As for instance “Hibernate”.

Step #4. In the end, click on Finish.

From now onwards, simply say,”Hey Cortana: Open Hibernate” in order to put your PC in Hibernate mode.
