Android has been my favorite mobile OS for several years. What I like most about it is the highly user-friendly features and easy-to-use UI. With around 70% market share globally, Android is the undisputed leader.

There are several ways to unlock your Android smartphone. As for instance, there is a PIN, a password, a swipe or a pattern gesture. I love to unlock my device using my face. Yes. Though face unlocking feature may not be perfectly secured, I find it quite interesting. What about you?

Willing to find out how you can set up face unlock on your phone? Here you go!

How to Unlock your Android Smartphone/Tablet with your Face

Step #1. First up, you have to set a secure unlocking method for your phone – if you have not already done it. To do so, launch Settings app on your Android device.

Step #2. Now, scroll down and tap on Security & fingerprint.

Step #3. Next, you need to tap on Screen lock.

Step #4. Next, you will have to choose from either the Pattern, PIN or Password unlocking methods. Select the preferred option and follow the onscreen instructions to set up your unlocking method.

Step #5. Now, return to the Security settings. Tap on Smart Lock.

Step #6. You have to enter your PIN, password or unlock pattern when asked. And then, tap on Trusted face.

Step #7. Now, the information about unlocking your phone with your face will appear on the screen.

Make sure to read the information carefully. Once you are done, tap on Setup. Next, Android will tell you to find a well-lit spot to help it pick up your facial features. After you have found the right spot, tap on Next.

Step #8. Your device will now start to identify your face. Make sure to hold your phone at eye level in order that your face is within the ring of dots onscreen.

As soon as you have positioned your phone properly, the dots will start turning green. Now, you have to hold the device still until all the dots have turned green and you see a checkmark on the screen.

Step #9. Tap on Next.

(In order to have perfect results, you can show the OS your various looks under different conditions. As for instance, have a clean shaven face, get a beard look, show it how cool you look with a hat, sport a hair up look, then go for a hair down look. It will help recognize you better. If you ever happen to change your look, there won’t be any problem in using the face unlock.

To get it done, simply go back to Settings → Security → Smart Lock → Trusted face and then tap Improve face matching. Go to a well-lit spot, change your appearance as desired and then tap on Next. Follow the process of adding a face.)

That’s all there is to it!

Agreed, face unlock is not as secured as a regular password as anyone who resembles you; may unlock your device. But, it’s fun.
