Ever since Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced new “Reliance Jio” plans with free voice calling for all Jio subscribers on September 1, millions of people are lining up to grab the offer. The services are to be available from Monday, September 5 and will be absolutely free as part of the ‘Jio welcome offer’.
This hot offer is going to be valid till December 31, after that the announced rates will be applied. Free voice calling along with the unbelievably low data prices have attracted a lot of users to switch to Reliance Jio networks.
Even without getting a new number, you can opt for mobile number portability (MNP) to shift to the Reliance Jio network. The best thing about it is that you won’t have to change your current phone number. So, are you all geared up to switch to Jio? Let’s dive ahead to get it done quickly!
How to Switch to Reliance Jio
Step #1. First off, send a text message to your current operator requesting for a port out.
Make sure to send the message PORT to 1900. The current carrier will send you a Unique Porting Code from 1901 with 15 days validity from your current carrier.
Step #2. Next, you need to go to any Reliance Mobile Store or retailer and fill up the Customer Application Form (CAF). You will have to fill in the porting code as well.
Step #3. Now, you have to submit the required documents such as, proof of address, proof of identity and photograph.
Step #4. Reliance will issue a new Reliance Jio SIM card. Once it has been activated, the new SIM will use the same phone number you had. Your old SIM will no longer be active.
Step #5. Reliance Jio SIM may take up to 7 days to activate. It will charge a fee of Rs. 19.
In the course of porting, your number may be deactivated for about two hours ( between 10PM and 5AM)before the new Reliance Jio SIM will beready to go.
Step #6. After your current SIM starts showing “No Service”. You need to put in your new Reliance Jio SIM.
After you have successfully ported, the Jio SIM will be activated.
One thing you need to know that you won’t be able to use MNP to switch to your earlier operator or others for at least 90 days.
