I still remember the horrible time when I accidentally dropped my Android smartphone in the swimming pool. Having very little knowledge about how to fix a water-damaged phone, I had to abandon the handset and spent money to buy a new one. Let me tell you it was a rather painful affair.

Having experienced the pain the hard way, I have discovered a few tricks that can fix a water-damaged smartphone. If you have accidentally dropped your device in a pool or sink and are looking for some quick ways to troubleshoot it, check out these handy tips.

How to Fix Water-Damaged Smartphone in 5 Steps

The first thing you need to do is remove your device from water as soon as possible. Then, there are five things you must avoid doing.

  1. Make sure not to turn on your smartphone.
  2. At the same time, avoid pressing any buttons or keys.
  3. Make sure not to tap, bang or shake your device. (It could activate the Liquid Damage Indicator (LDI), which will void the warranty of your handset.)
  4. Make sure not to blow on your device.
  5. Don’t heat or cool the device.

5 steps to save your water damaged phone

Step #1. First off, you will need to quickly switch off your device if it isn’t already. Then you have to remove any protective casing (if it is on your device.) Make sure to remove your SIM and microSD cards as well. (It may not be possible on all the Android devices.)

Step #2. Now, dry up your phone using a cloth or paper. Make sure not to spread the liquid.

Step #3. Carefully use a vacuum to dry the device if there is a lot of water inside the device. You can also put your handset in a bag full of uncooked rice. It’s an age-old trick as rice is equipped to soak water fast.

Step #4. You have to dry your phone for a couple of days. Then, insert the SIM and microSD cards and turn it on. If the device doesn’t turn on, you will have to charge it. And if it doesn’t charge at all, you will need to replace the battery.

Step #5. If everything else fails to fix the phone, you will need to repair it at a good mobile repair center.

Try Using Water resistant cases

If you don’t want your smartphone to face such problem again or wish to provide it some safeguard, you can try water resistant cases. There are several well-known brands like Griffin Survivor which provide fabulous cases designed to offer your device much-needed protection from water.

Must Know the Real Strength of Your Device

I have found a number of people testing out the capability of the water resistance of their phone. Make sure to check out all the prescribed conditioned before submerging your device into water.

I have had a horrible experience of checking out the water resistance of my device. Even without reading the exact circumstances described by the manufacturer and more importantly; understanding all the pros and cons, I put my device into deep water for long thinking it’s strong enough to resist everything.

But when I brought the phone out from water, it became completely dysfunctional. Therefore, I never fail to check out the real strength of my device before letting it fight for survival.
