MIUI is customised Android operating system for Xiaomi’s phones. Earlier in the year of 2017, Xiaomi banned to install third-party themes on devices running MIUI. The company took this step to promote their own themes so that they can showcase the talent of their designers and developers. They only allow downloading and installing themes from the official website designer.xiaomi.com. And I guess that’s the good option for us, as we only get those themes which are tested and bug-free.

Solutions #1: Register as a designer
Step #1. Go to Mi account login page and create a new Mi account.
Step #2. Next, visit Xiaomi Designer page and log in with your Mi account.
Step #3. Now choose “Individual designer.”
Step #4. Fill up all your detail and click the “Accept Agreement and Register” button.
Step #5. Now, wait 2-3 days until you get the confirmation email from the company.
Once you have successfully registered as Xiaomi designer, you will be able to download and install your favorite custom theme on your device.
Solution #2: Use MIUI Theme Editor App
The MIUI Theme Editor app will also help you to get rid of “Themes from third-party sources not supported” problem while downloading any custom theme. Follow below steps to get it done:
Step #1. Download and install MIUI Theme Editor app on your Android phone.
Step #2. Next, open the MIUI Theme Editor app.
Step #3. Tap on “Browse” and select the mtz file of third party theme that has downloaded and hit the “OK.”
Step #4. Tap on “Next.”
Step #5. Tick the box with “edit filename or path” and edit the file name, then hit the “Finish” button.
Step #6. Wait for a 2-3 minute to save the theme and wait for a while to install the theme and tap on OK.
Step #7. Now, open the Theme app and tap on Offline. Here you will see the two versions of the same Theme, select anyone.
Step #8. Tap on “Apply.”
