Just recently WhatsApp introduced so many new features like adding stickers, sending GIFs and not to forget the big one, video calling. But ever since WhatsApp was introduced nothing much has been done on the security front. Right now if you are a new user of WhatsApp or you want to re-login after clearing the data or because you have changed your smartphone, then you need to rely on OTP (One Time Password) sent by WhatsApp.
But recently it is learned that OTP verification is not at all safe and your phone details can easily be hacked by diverting the OTP to the hacker’s PC. Just a few months back Telegram was hacked by some Iranian hackers by using the same trick. Mind you this doesn’t compromise WhatsApp’s or any chat messenger’s security but it compromises your phone’s security.
So WhatsApp has introduced a 2-Step Verification (2SV) to its BETA users and once it finds success it will be rolled out to the other WhatsApp users in near future. So before this update reaches you, you must know how you can enable the two-step verification (2SV) on WhatsApp for iPhone and Android.
How to Enable 2-Step Verification (2SV) in WhatsApp on iPhone and iPhone
Step #1. Open WhatsApp on your smartphone.
Step #2. Now, Tap on 3 vertical dots on the top right corner of your WhatsApp.
Step #3. Go to Settings and then tap on Account.
Step #4. Under Account, tap on Two-step verification, and then tap on ‘Enable’.
Step #5. Next, Set your personal 6 digit passcode and reconfirm it when prompted.
Step #6. Enter your email ID where you wish to recover your passcode. (Although this is an optional step but we advise you to provide your email ID so that you have an extra layer of security, just in case you forget your passcode.)
Step #7. Tap on ‘Done’ and that’s it!
If you have set your 2SV passcode now and it is possible that you forget it in future then what you will do? Well in this new feature WhatsApp will periodically ask you to enter your passcode so that you don’t forget it too soon. If you wish not to receive these periodic reminders then it is better idea to leave the Two Step Verification feature by following the same steps given above.
This is the easiest and probably the way to secure your WhatsApp account from hacker’s eyes.
