How to Get Better Call Quality on Skype for Android
There are three handy tricks that can help you improve the call quality on Skype:
Don’t Move Your Device Much
While you are chatting, make sure not to move your device much. Though LTE connection remains stable (most probably) when you move your device, it’s Wi-Fi connection that tends to blow hot and cold.
Try Out LTE Connection
There are times when Wi-Fi connection doesn’t work at its best. Hence, the call quality drops. In such cases, you can try out LTE connection if it’s available.
The quality of call depends on the LTE coverage in your area. One thing you need to keep in mind that the use of LTE for video calling will eat into a lot of data. Hence, make sure to reserve it for voice calling only.
Reduce the Video Quality
Reducing video resolution can help you improve the quality of the connection. To me, it’s a smart trick that almost always does the job.
Step #1. Open Skype app on your device.
Step #2. Tap on the hamburger (three lines) menu at the top-left of the landing page.
Step #3. The sidebar will open. You will see the settings (cog) option at the bottom of the panel.
Scroll down; you will see the video quality. By default, it is set to high. Set it to low.
How to Limit the Skype Data Usage on Android Phone
Does Skype consume tons of data on your smartphone? You can easily prevent it from doing so.
Android has “restrict background data” feature which allows you to prevent Skype from eating up a lot of data, when not in use.
Step #1. Launch Settings app.
Step #2. Next, tap on Apps → Skype.
Step #3. Tap on Data usage. On the next page, tick the “restrict background data” box.
That’s it! It will restrict the data consumption of Skype in the background.
Though you will continue to receive messages as usual calls won’t be received when the app is not opened and you are using mobile data.
Skype lets you limit data usage as well. Head over to the settings menu and choose Wi-Fi only. The other option is to limit video quality (as mentioned above).
If you are really concerned about the fast data consumption, you need to sign out of the app once you have used it.
How to Send Video Messages in Skype on Android Phone
Skype allows you to send video messages as well. If you ever want to spice up your messaging experience, this is the way to go.
Step #1. Open Skype on your Android device.
Step #2. Next, you have to tap on the Plus sign at the bottom right corner.
Step #3. Now, you need to the top-right image; the chat bubble with a camera inside.
Step #4. Up next, you will be taken to the video message feature. Now, go ahead and record a video with the front or rear camera. You can also add some nice effects. Simply tap on the red record button at the bottom to start. Once you have recorded the video, tap it again to finish.
Step #5. Up next, you need to tap on the blue paper airplane symbol.
Step #6. Your contacts list will appear on the screen. Select the contact to which you want to send the video and send it.
How to Reduce Skype Battery Usage on Android Phone
Is Skype draining a lot of battery on your smartphone? You can prevent it from doing so.
- Make sure to use voice calls more than video calls.
- When you are connected to a video call, tap on the blue camera button to disable your camera.
- Next, tap on the audio button in order to change the audio playback from the speaker to the earpiece.
Reduce Display and Brightness
Before making a video call set the display brightness to a minimum level. There are times when you go on chatting with your friends a little longer. Reducing the display brightness can really help in saving some battery.
Make sure to keep the app up to date.
It is very important to keep the app up-to-date. Hence, make sure to check out the latest updates from time to time and update Skype without any fail. It will resolve a number of issues.
That’s all there is to it! Hopefully, these tips help you enhance the user experience of Skype like never before.
